Marie Lynn Hammond will be featured in our second House Concert Sunday Oct 18. This is a Sunday afternoon concert starting at 3:00pm (doors open at 2:30) at 19 on the Park. Marie-Lynn Hammond, now a Stouffville resident, has been called one of Canada’s best songwriters. Co-founder of Stringband, one of Canada’s seminal folk groups and indie-record pioneers, she is known for her brilliant lyrics in both English and French, which range from hauntingly personal to wickedly hilarious. She has five full-length recordings to her credit, and an EP of horse songs (yes, she rides!). At the WhiStle concert, she’ll be accompanied by fabulous keyboardist Tom Leighton. And look for some surprise special guests as well! Tickets are $12 and can be purchased at the box office, Barthau Jewellers, 410 Auto, Candlelight and Memories, and Cedar Beach Grill.

Award-winning reporter and commentator Tayler Parnaby, a 50-year news radio veteran will be sharing his perspectives about radio, news and whatever else he feels like on Tuesday Oct 20 @ 2:00pm, 19 on the Park. Our fifth season of live coverage Spirit Hockey on WhiStle Radio starts tonight at 7:00. Daryl Macklem and his mystery colour commentator will be calling the play-by-play. Fabs will take on his usual Thursday night spot starting next Thursday.

Cast into the streets of West Africa and the United States of America, Freddy Will talks about his hustle and how he got trained in phlebotomy. In Africa, he found solace in reggae playing ghetto slums where his involvement in music drew lifelong friendships that were nurtured from the most unexpected places. While living in Freetown, Sierra Leone his parents who were living in New Jersey, USA made a radical intervention that spared him from the wrath of the latter vendettas of the genocidal civil war but not before him was exposed to guns, drugs and violence.

Freddy Will’s refugee experiences that started in Sierra Leone, continued throughout places like the tropical paradise of The Gambia and Dakar, Senegal and only ended with a long awaited reunion in New Jersey where racism would mimic tribalism. Turning to the streets of New Jersey taught him new lessons. Freddy Will wrote lyrics with a dream that seemed unattainable, until a chance encounter in Canada changed everything…

Also featured will be an interview with 5 time Grammy winner Carvin Winan of The Winans. Their first record, Introducing The Winans was produced in 1981. They appeared in This is America, Charlie Brown’s segment “The Building of the Transcontinental Railroad” on February 10, 1989. Their style was noted for its crossover efforts and received airplay on R&B radio.

Carvin will talk about working with Freddy on his new single “Providence” which we will air! Also Carvin will talk about his strong faith in God, his wonderful background as a singer, and the many amazing artists he has been blessed to work with and much more!

Also, we have poet and artist Robin Gibson in the studio with us, to talk about her upcoming book, and to help host the show and read some poetry!

WhiStle Radio is launching a house concert series July 10, with Peter Verity. Verity is a multi-instrumentalist (guitar, harmonica and mandolin) and performer of his own original brand of “charged” folk tunes. His songwriting also garnered great reviews and songs have been recognized by many songwriting contests and awarded several accolades including Folk category runner up in the NA John Lennon Songwriting Contest and winner of the Best Folk Artist at TIMA (Toronto Independent Music Awards) .
